Psylla buxi
Boxwood psyllid
Description
Psylla buxi (Boxwood Psyllid) is a small insect that targets Buxus spp. (boxwood). Psylla buxi is a plant-parasitic insect belonging to the family Psyllidae. It originates from Europe and has been introduced also to North America. It has one generation per year and overwinters as an egg in bud scales. In spring, nymphs hatch and feed on young shoots, causing the leaves to curl into a cuplike shape, which protects the developing psyllid. Though rarely fatal, repeated infestations weaken the plant and reduce its overall health. Aesthetic damage reduces the ornamental value of boxwood.

Leaf curling and cupping. Stunted growth of young shoots.
