Marssonina betulae

Description

The infection of leaves and shoots occurs  in spring and summer due to conidia splashed by raindrops from the infected parts of plants. A result of the infection is spottiness of leaves, sometimes bark necrosis and even twig canker. In autumn, on infected places of bark is created black stroma and tiny fruiting bodies - perithecia in it. Ascospores infecting new shoots mature at the end of winter and in spring.
