Description

Acericecis campestre is a gall midge – a small species of dipteran, similar to a mosquito, only many many times smaller. On the underside of the leaf, one larva lives in a small notch; on the upper side, there is a small outgrowth, usually less than 1 mm, above the place of occurrence of the larva. A yellow zone with a diameter of approximately 1 cm is formed around this place. After the larva leaves the growth, a yellow spot remains, which gradually dries up. The larva is white, almost translucent, short and wide. The species has one generation per a year and pupation takes place in the soil. It lives only on field maple (Acer campestre).

Symptom

Round spot on the leaves with darker dot in the middle. About 1 cm in diameter.
