Description

Trichochermes walkeri is a psyllid species that develops on Rhamnus cathartica (purging buckthorn). The larvae induce characteristic leaf margin rolling, forming gall-like structures along the edges of leaves. The species overwinters as eggs and completes one generation per year. Adults emerge from June to October, with nymphs feeding on leaves throughout spring and early summer. The feeding activity and gall formation can lead to leaf deformation and discoloration, affecting the overall appearance of the host tree. Although the impact on the tree's health is generally not severe, repeated infestations can weaken young trees and reduce their aesthetic value. The species is distributed across Europe, with higher occurrences in southern and central regions.

Symptom

Leaf margins of Rhamnus cathartica are rolled upwards, thickened, and may turn from green to yellow or reddish. The undersides of affected leaves are often covered with dense hairs.
