Nectria fuckeliana

Nectria fuckeliana

Description

The fungus is a spruce bark canker pathogen. Long-lasting necrosis induces formation of permanent concentric circles of callus tissue around the necrotic bark and cambium. Even though an infected tree may reach a high age, its wood value is degraded and trees sometimes break in the canker. The infection gateways are injuries of various origin.
