Lophodermium seditiosum
Needle cast
Description
The needle cast is an aggressive pathogen. It infects not only weakened seedlings, but under favourable weather conditions also healthy ones. In practice, it is possible to differentiate Lophodermium pinastri and L. seditiosum according to ascospores formed in the boat-like fruiting bodies. In case of L. seditiosum infection, however, thin transverse stripes formed by the black fungal mycelium between individual fruiting bodies do not occur. Infestation can be severe.
Symptom
Black boat-shaped fruiting bodies, without black transverse strips on the needles.
