Xyleborus monographus
Mediterranean oak borer
Description
It attacks various deciduous trees but primarily oaks. The brood gallery system is produced, as a rule, only by one female. The chamber branches off in an antler-like shape in one level vertical to the trunk axis. The larvae feed only on gallery fungi and do not widen the brood galleries. The beetles fly onto fresh stumps and trunks of weakened, dying or recently dead trees. It is commoner in warmer locations.
Symptom
Galleries in wood.
