Lochmaea caprea

Willow Leaf Beetle

Description

The adult is a small beetle, about 6–7 mm long, with pale brown elytra (as if they were transparent) and a black shield. Damage is caused not only by the larva feeding on leaves, but also by the imago – maturation feeding. The species does damage to goat willows, other willows and birches. It is common in riparian stands. In case of outbreak it can cause 80–90% defoliation. It often occurs on a massive scale.
