Lighting
Lightning
Description
Lightning is a natural atmospheric phenomenon associated with electrical discharges that can cause severe damage to trees and shrubs. A lightning strike leads to extreme heating of water within internal plant tissues, often resulting in bark and wood splitting, detachment of crown parts, or even the death of the entire tree. Even if a tree survives the strike, it is often left weakened, increasing its susceptibility to disease and wood-boring insects. Various tree species can be affected, especially tall, solitary individuals in open landscapes, cities, and parks. Although it is a natural factor, its impact on the health and aesthetic appearance of trees can be significant.
Symptom
Long cracks in the bark of the trunk or branches, scorched and peeled areas, fallen limbs, or visibly dry sections of the crown.
