Ascodichaena rugosa

Ascodicheana fungus

Description

A parasitic fungus infecting only a cork layer of the bark. It takes out nutrients from the tree with haustoria that colonize young living phellem cells formed by phellogen. The tree reacts by increased formation of cells, which leads to coarsening the bark. The fungus is of little significance; it is not needed to take any control measures. It usually occurs on bark at the asexual stage.

Black rough spots on the bark.
