Unaspis euonymi
Euonymus scale
Description
Unaspis euonymi, also known as the euonymus scale, is a pest that primarily attacks plants in the genus Euonymus. Unaspis euonymi is a bivoltine species, and the mated females overwinter. The females primarily infest branches, while males are mainly found on leaves. A heavy infestation of Unaspis euonymi can cause both aesthetic and physiological damage to plants. Infested leaves become spotted, and the plant may lose vigor and even die. Infestations can be controlled through the use of insecticides, as well as through the removal and destruction of heavily infested plant material.
