Description

Eucalyptus leaf blotch Teratosphaeria nubilosa (syn. Mycosphaerella nubilosa) is a fungal pathogen responsible for significant foliar disease in eucalyptus plantations, particularly affecting Eucalyptus globulus. It infects young foliage, forming necrotic spots that often lead to premature defoliation. In Europe, the disease is especially prevalent in Portugal and Spain, where large-scale eucalyptus cultivation occurs. The pathogen thrives in humid and mild climates. Severe infections reduce photosynthetic area and may substantially impair tree health and biomass production. Additionally, infected trees show a marked decline in ornamental value. The disease can spread rapidly in monocultures and poses a serious threat in intensively managed stands and nurseries.

Symptom

Irregular dark brown leaf spots with reddish margins; affected leaves may yellow and fall prematurely.
