Rabdophaga salicis

Description

This species induces large hollow shoot galls on many willow species. Thickening of sprouts, which is about 10-40 mm long and 10 mm thick. There are up to 50 reddish larvae inside. The larvae not only develop inside the gall but they also pupate and overwinter there. Adults pupate in May. Galled shoots usually die as a result of pest gall. The gall persist on tree for several year.
