Pycnoporus cinnabarinus

Cinnabar-red polypore

Description

The fruiting bodies are annual, laterally attached; they are leathery when fresh, salmon-ochre to apricot-orange, they turn pale with age, sometimes turn black. Pores are orange-red, they maintain its red colour longer than the cap surface. The mycelium causes white rot of attacked dead wood.
