Pseudaulacaspis pentagona

White peach scale

Description

Pseudaulacaspis pentagona, also known as white peach scale, forms large colonies on the leaves and stems of host trees. This small insect measures 0.7–2.0 mm in length, and the adult female scale is immobile on the host plant, covered with a protective waxy coat. Larvae and males are smaller in size. Originally from China, this pest has been known for a long time in the southern regions of Central Europe and has recently been found in central and northern parts as well. The white peach scale is an economically significant pest of peach trees and woody ornamentals in Europe, causing both aesthetic and physiological damage to the host plants.
