Podosphaera leucotricha

Apple powdery mildew

Description

Apple powdery mildew is a fungal plant pathogen that overwinters in buds. When spring growth flushes from infested tissue, buds and young leaves appears white and mealy due to the presence of a large number of spores. Infected leaves and flowers will wither, die and drop from the tree. It is one of the most serious fungus diseases of apple. There are significant differences in resistance to the fungus among cultivars. The spring outbreaks lead to secondary infections in late summer.
