Pineus strobi
Pine bark adelgid
Description
In Central Europe, this species lives only on Weymouth pine. Most of them overwinter on bark where in spring they begin producing a large amount of woodly wads covering and protecting larvae against extrinsic impacts. Under the woolly wads it also lays eggs. After hatching, some adelgids move to young shoots, while the others remain on the trunk. In the period of their occurrence, the pines look like as if sprinkled with lime. Occasionally it occurs commonly; trees are weakened by its sucking.
