Pineus pini
Pine woolly aphid
Description
Aphids overwinter on the terminal parts of young pine shoots. The aphids are covered with a coating of white wax cotton wool. In the spring, in April they mature and lay eggs. The larvae that hatch from the eggs pass to the young shoots, where they suckle. In the summer, they mature on winged aphids, which fly over to other pines and some of them to spruces, where they do not develop further. Its effect may be more harmful on young seedlings. It does not cause damage to adult pines. It is common in many places.
