Phyllonorycter platani

Description

It is South European species, which was introduced to several Central European countries. Bivoltine, the adults fly in June-July then from August to September. The blotch mines regularly found on the underside, less often on the upper side. Sometimes up to 60 mines can be found on a single leaf. The mine is large, if there are not too many mines on one leaf, its surface can reach 4 cm2 as an average.  The larva is yellowish brown or whitish, 5-7 mm long when fully grown. The autumn generation can feed until November. Overwinters as pupa in the fallen leaves on the ground. In parks and roadside alleys can cause considerable leaf loss leading to a physiological and esthetical damage.
