Phigalia pilosaria

Pale brindled beauty

Description

Caterpillars feed on leaves of broadleaved trees in May and June. Sometimes they can, together with other abundant moth species (mainly Geometrid species), cause defoliation of trees. The species hibernates as a pupa. Adults occur in early spring - from February to April. The females are wingless. The species is distributed in various habitats - forests, woods, orchards, parks etc.

The caterpillar is dark gray-brown. It resembles a dry branch.
