Petrakia echinata

Petrakia echinata

Description

Only sycamore maple is infected by this species. Similar spots observed on sycamore leaves, however, are caused by the fungus Pleuroceras pseudoplatani. Spots of both the diseases are dark brown to black and they reach up to 5 cm in diameter. At first, their colour is pale brown with a diffuse edge. Later they become darker and the edges become sharp. Attacked leaves are deformed, they show symptoms of chlorosis and they fall off prematurely. Depending on weather and age of the tree, the intensity of attack varies from several infected leaves up to the attack of almost all leaves.
