Pestalotia hartigii
Truncatella fungus
Description
When the topsoil is overheated to a temperature of about 45-55 °C, there occurs damage to seedlings by heat. The seedlings fall down as in case of fungal infection. However, there often occurs strangulation of the root collar and the above-ground parts of the stump go thick. Similar damage is caused also by some herbicide. The pathogen has characteristic spores; its occurrence is confirmed by sample cultivation and by microscoping.
