Orthosia miniosa
Orthosia miniosa
Description
The adults are moths active during the night and frequently captured by light sources. The wingspan is between 31-36 mm, the length of the forewings being between 15-17 mm. The color of forewings is dull ochraceous with dark zigzags; the hindwings are silky grayish-white with apparent darker venation. During the first larval stages the insects are gregarious and feed inside a silken web; in the last larval stages they become solitary and feed alone. The larvae consume especially the young leaves which they chew. The last stage larvae are grayish with yellow and black stripes, with black cephalic capsule and legs. The species is monovoltine and the flight takes place between April and May. Occurs in broadleaved forests and hedgerows dominated by Quercus spp.
