Description

Larvae feed on leaves of broadleaved trees, from May to June. They prefer Quercus spp. and Carpinus spp. They often spin leaves of their host plants. Adults are on the wing in early spring - from March to May. The species is widely distributed across areas where its host plants occur. Larvae of O. cruda belong to the species-rich caterpillar assemblages occurring on oaks (or some other broadleaved trees) in spring. In some years, these assemblages composed of various caterpillar species can cause damage to host trees (partial or total defoliation).

Symptom

Larvae often spin leaves of their host plants. The caterpillar is a gray-white strip with a white line on the sides.
