Neuroterus lanuginosus

Gall wasp Neuroterus lanuginosus

Description

The sexual and asexual generations of Neuroterus lanuginosus produce different galls, as do all other species of this family. Sexual generation causes inconspicuous spherical galls on oak catkins, 1.5-2 mm in diameter, green when young, brown when mature, covered with white hairs. The asexual generation produces flat round galls on the leaves, 5-7 mm in diameter, densely covered with long white to golden hairs. They often appear on a leaf in groups of 4-8. It can be very abundant and the galls can cover most of the leaf.

Symptom

This species forms brown green, hairy globular galls 3–5 mm in diameter on the underside of leaves, usually gregariously.
