Nematostoma parasiticum

White felt blight of Abies

Description

It is a microscopic fungus causing loose needle disease. At the base of these needles are tiny white joints of mycelium. The damage in some parts of the branches is more intense and during total defoliation the shoots also die. The name of the disease caused by the fungus Nematostoma parasiticum (syn. Herpotrichia parasitica) is \\\\\\\"White Felt Blight of Abies\\\\\\\" in English. So it\\\\\\\'s about loose. The disease occurs in humid places, in overcrowded worts, but also in older stands, where there is weak air movement, especially in mountainous areas. As it is a free-flowing disease, the predisposition is mainly humidity. We therefore recommend reducing the humidity of the microclimate in the stands, e.g. pruning. For the most damaged trees, trim the infested branches, or cut down and burn trees with damage greater than 75%.

Symptom

Some needles are dead, colored gray-green to straw brown.
