Black cherry aphid

Description

The females are approximately 2 mm long, dark brown to shiny black. This aphid overwinters in egg stage. Several generations may occur during the season. The pest occurs on the underside of the leaves, causing the leaves curl up and form compact bundles. The pest colonies are often visited by ants, attracted by presence of honeydew. The tip of shoots and the underside of the leaves are most frequent place its occurrence. The secondary host is Galium spp., Veronica spp. and Asperula spp. Black cherry aphid is a major pest of cherry orcgards; often regarded as one of the limiting factors to crop production.
