Description
Adults of M. pruinosa are 5 to 8 mm in length. The color varies considerably from brown to gray. A characteristic pair of dark spots is located in the basal half of each forewing. Adults, but especially larvae and nymphs, are covered with a white epicuticular wax (hence the Latin name pruinosa, meaning frosty). They can be found from mid- July until late Autumn, feeding on plant sap in aggregations of many individuals.
