Hylesinus wachtli orni
Bark beetle Hylesinus wachtli orni
Description
The adult insect is only 2–3 mm long. The pair of its maternal tunnels is at right angle with the tree trunk axis and only about 3 cm long. The larval galleries are dense and parallel, adjoining one another almost throughout the entire development cycle. The larvae pupate in sapwood. The insect is more commonly found in thinner branches and its larval galleries in the sapwood are quite visible.
Symptom
The two larval corridors perpendicular to the trunk axis are only about 3 cm long. The larval corridors are densely next to each other, touching each other for almost the entire development.
