Hyalopterus pruni
Mealy plum aphid
Description
Hyalopterus pruni aphids are small, soft-bodied insects with oval-shaped bodies. They are usually pale green in color, but can sometimes appear pinkish individuals in the colony. These aphids possess wax-covered filaments that give them a mealy or powdery appearance, providing some protection against predators and environmental conditions. They can be found continuously from spring to autumn. Winged adults appear in June - July. They can cause slight deformation of leaves, which are not too serious usually. They lower photosynthesis and soak plant fluids.
Symptom
A colony of whitish-gray aphids on the underside of a leaf. Slight leaf deformations. Infested leaves dry up and fall prematurely.
