Herpotrichia nigra
Herpotrichia nigra
Description
The fungus grows very well at a temperature of 0 ° C with an optimum of 15 ° C and at an air humidity above 95%. The stands are prone in mountainous places in places where the snow covers the branches 6 - 7 months of the year. The fungus first lives as an epiphyte, mechanically overgrown and tangled needles and twigs, later penetrates through the vents into the needles, parasitizes on living tissues and causes them to die. On older trees and higher rhododendrons, it attacks only the lower branches. However, it is very harmful in forest nurseries. The infection occurs in a time without snow.
