Gracillaria syringella

Leaf miner Gracillaria syringella

Description

Has two generations per year. The adults (10–13 mm wingspan) fly from April–May then in July. Eggs are laid on the midrib of leaves. Young larvae mine the leaves, starting with a narrow mine later widening into a blotch mine. The older larvae feed in a tent made of webbed leaves. Feeding of the larvae causes discolouration and distortion of the leaves. Its mass occurrence can cause aesthetic losses. It can be found in parks, gardens and hedgerows.
