Fusarium spp.
Fusarium bark disease
Description
Fusarium bark disease on Robinia spp. are caused by several Fusarium species. Some of the pathogens cause root rots, other cause systemic infections of xylem known as wilt diseases or vascular wilts. Conidia of fungi can be dispersed by water, air, and insects too. Usually infection happens via the bark or bark injuries mainly on younger shoots or young plants, which have thinner bark. Some weeks later the infected bark dies and sinks and becomes dark brown. In case of heavy infection, the sapwood dies in full circle around the branch, so the upper part of the branch wilts.
