Fenusella nana

Early birch leaf edgeminer

Description

Surface mine on the upper side of the leaf.  Large blotch, starting from the leaf margin. The female lays eggs on the leaf edge and from there arises surface feeding which gradually widens. At the edge of the leaf  there is usually frass - a darker place in feeding.  The larva is intially green and then turns a dark yellow colour towards maturity. Pupation outside the mine.
