Eurytetranychus latus
Boxwood spider mite
Description
Eurytetranychus latus, also known as the boxwood spider mite, is a polyphagous pest primarily found on Buxus sempervirens and occasionally on Cupressus species. This mite, native to Europe with records in North America, prefers warm, dry environments and is especially prevalent in ornamental plantings and hedges. It overwinters as adults on host plants and becomes active in early spring, feeding on the undersides of leaves. The feeding activity punctures cells, causing leaves to develop a bronze or yellowed appearance. Severe infestations can lead to leaf drop and diminished plant vigor, affecting the plant's aesthetic appeal and overall health.
Symptom
Infested leaves show yellowing. Over time, the color changes to bronze or brown, initially appearing as small spots that gradually merge, leading to the above-mentioned symptoms.
