Gall mite Eriophyes tiliae

Description

Eriophyes tiliae, commonly known as the gall mite, is a species of mite that infests trees in the Tilia genus. The mite feeds on the leaves of the tree, causing the formation of galls, which are abnormal growths that encase the mite and protect it from predators and environmental factors. Galls caused by Eriophyes tiliae are typically small, elyptical, and green or reddish in color. They may be found on the upper surface of the leaf. The life cycle of Eriophyes tiliae involves several stage. Sheaths are white, sometimes ocherous-brown. It is more abundant in lower parts of crowns where it is subjected to less direct sunlight.
