Eotetranychus pruni
Spider mite Eotetranychus pruni
Description
Eotetranychus pruni is a polyphagous spider mite that attacks a wide range of deciduous trees and shrubs, including species of Prunus, Acer, Malus, Pyrus, Tilia, Fraxinus, and others. It develops on the undersides of leaves, where all developmental stages are found. Females overwinter under bark, in leaf litter or crevices near the host tree. Depending on the region, the mite completes several generations per year - up to 12 in warmer climates. Feeding damages leaf tissue by sucking out cell contents, leading to chlorosis, premature leaf fall, and reduced plant vigor. In warmer and drier summers, population density may increase significantly. This species is widely distributed in Europe, the Caucasus, Central Asia, and parts of North America.
Symptom
On the underside of leaves are dense colonies, leaf coloration changes to yellowish or reddish, often followed by premature leaf fall. Fine webbing may be visible.
