Endelomyia aethiops

Rose slug sawfly

Description

Endelomyia aethiops, commonly known as the rose slug sawfly, is a sawfly species from the family Tenthredinidae. The larvae of Endelomyia aethiops feed on rose leaves by skeletonizing them, consuming only (mainly) the leaf surface. Adults are 4‒5 mm in size, while larvae can grow up to 15 mm. The flight period for this species is from May to June. Native to Eurasia, it is now widespread and adventive in Europe.
