Description

The larva of this small moth excavates feeding galleries in the trunk bark mainly on older beeches. It prefers trunks thicker than 10 cm. In the place of feeding the bark is swollen and it can crack. One gallery use to be about 10 cm long. On one trunk there can accur a large number of feeding galleries. The moth flies in July and August. Related species Ectoedemia atrifrontella excavates similar feeding galleries in bark on beech branches.
