Description

Wingspan is 32–39 mm, ground colour brown with marbling pattern on forewings, suffused by green scales. Larva is 20–25 mm in length, pale yellowgreen, with conspicuous, wide, almost white dorsal line. Subdorsal and lateral lines are same in the colour as dorsal one, much less conspicuous. Spiracles are whitish, bordered by pale brown circles. Head is yellowish, pinnacles only little darker than vicinity, setae relatively long, pale. Larva initially bores into opening bud on oaks, later feeds on leaves, which it sometimes spins. The single generation flies in August and September. Widespread in oak stands, in warmer regions often not rare.
