Balsam woolly aphid
Description
It is very similar to silver fir woolly aphid, however, it only lives on trunks of older fir trees (with a trunk diameter of about 15–18 cm at a height of 130 cm) Thus, the trunk of fir appears white as if it were sprinkled with sugar. Individuals of the progrediens generation only rarely crawl up onto needles. Generally, balsam woolly aphid is less harmful than silver fir woolly aphid. It occurs only locally but in denser and less open stands. Sometimes mass outbreaks can occur.
