Drepanopeziza populorum

Marssonina blight of poplar

Description

In the early part of summer, on leaves are formed small brownish round spots, around which appears a chlorosis “halo”. In the course of summer, the spots increase in a diameter up to 0.5 cm, they can also be joined together in irregular necrotic spots. With firm pressure, stems of leaves and young shoots can be infected too. On the upper side of leaves are formed small greyish white pycnidia. The fungus overwinters on shed leaves. The older name of the fungus is Marssonina populi.
