Description

The unisexual generation induces monolocular globular galls 8-10 mm in diameter on the lateral veins of the under side of the leaves. The gall has a characteristic pattern of white stripes or spots against a pale green or red background. Mature galls are quite hard. The bisexual generation develops in inconspicuous 2-3 mm long egg-shaped bud galls. The preferred food plant is Quercus robur, but this species can occasionally be found on Q. petraea.
