Acorn weevil

Description

Adults are about 4-8 mm long excluding the nose. The body is oval-shaped, covered with yellowish-brown scales. The front part of the head is lengthened in a nose which is longer than the body. Females lay their eggs in developing acorns in May. Damages are caused by the larva. Until autumn it lives inside of the acorn, later on it leaves the acorn trought an exit hole and overwinters in forest litter. In spring it pupates. The content of acorns is damaged and and filled in with black droppings. The acorns are usually attacked by accompanying fungi.
