Cronartium flaccidum

Pine blister rust

Description

On branches or stem, resinous cankers occur with white vesicles containing an orange powder. Yellowing or reddening of needles on affected branches can be seen a result of the tree decline. The twigs and branches die above the resinous cankers. Affected trees can progressively decline over a long period. C. flaccidum is known from Europe and also from part of northern and eastern Asia. This rust could cause damages on native and introduced pines.
