Aspen gall midge

Description

The greenish yellow to greenish red galls induced by this species are situated on leaf petiole, or leaf stem. Gall is created as a result of feeding of the larva. Inside the gall lives a pale legless larva. The species accompanies trembling aspen and occurs commonly also at a higher altitude. Attack can be sometimes massive, especially on younger trees up to 5-10 years.
