Coleophoridae

Case bearer

Description

Case bearers are small moths having long lashes on the narrow back wings. Larvae of the first instar feed inside the leaf, later creating a small case in which they live and from which they feed on parenchymal leaf tissues. The cases are often typical for individual species. Several species live on hornbeam, however, they do not cause any serious damage. From this genus are common C. currucipennella, C. milvipennis, C. fuscocuprella and Coleophora violacea on hornbeam.

Symptom

Caterpillars form a small sac in which they live and from which parenchymal leaf tissues eat.
