Cerura iberica
Iberian puss moth
Description
Cerura iberica (Iberian puss moth ) is a moth species from the family Notodontidae whose larvae feed on the leaves of broadleaf trees. It primarily attacks poplars (Populus) and willows (Salix), with heavy infestations sometimes leading to significant defoliation. This species is mainly distributed across the Iberian Peninsula, inhabiting riparian areas, scrublands, and urban plantings. The larvae consume large sections of leaves, and in severe cases, complete leaf loss can occur, noticeably reducing the ornamental value of the trees, worsens the health condition of trees and increases their susceptibility to secondary agents. In Europe, Cerura iberica is regarded as a regional pest in areas where host trees are abundant.
