Description

Damage to leaves starts to appear at the end of May. Mines are made in parenchymatous leaf tissues. Inside the mine lives a larva. It pupates on the leaf. In summer, the adults sit on horse chestnut trunks. It has 2–3 generations per year. Crowns of horse chestnuts turn brown and damaged leaves fall at the end of August as a result of horse-chestnut leaf miner infestation. The species was first discovered in 1984 near Ohrid Lake in Macedonia. It has since rapidly spread in Europoe. It has already attacked almost all the horse chestnuts in Austria, Switzerland, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Hungary and some other countries. Symptoms can be confused with Guignardia aesculi.
