Description
Arge ochropus, the rose sawfly is a known pest on roses. The 7–10 mm long adults fly in May–June. Eggs are laid in rows on young vegetative shoots or on flower stalks. Young larvae first feed on the lower epidermis, later on they chew through the leaf tissue completely. Normally has one generation, but in favorable years a 2nd brood may develop in autumn. Widely distributed. Common on both cultivated and wild roses in Central Europe. There is wide spectrum of other sawflies species, feeding on roses in Europe
